 "You formed my inmost being;
        you knit me in my mother's womb.
    I praise you, so wonderfully you made me;
        wonderful are your works!
    My very self you knew;
        my bones were not hidden from you,
        when I was being made in secret ..."

When the prenatal diagnosis is poor...Pieta* can help.

Some of the most devastating news an expectant mother can hear... is that her unborn baby has a fatal or life-limiting condition. Many healthcare providers are quick to present abortion as the “next step.”  Those mothers who choose to continue such a pregnancy can feel very isolated, unaware of any other mother who has carried such a baby to term.  Pieta was made to support these moms.

Who is Pieta:

Pieta is a group of mothers, each of whom continued their pregnancies after receiving a negative prenatal diagnosis.   We learned not to be afraid to love our babies, and how to cherish our time with them, before and after their birth.

What we offer:

Pieta offers the emotional support of a mom who has experienced the pregnancy, birth and death of her own short-lived baby.  Pieta moms know first-hand the challenges of grief, of helping the baby’s siblings understand what is happening, and of dealing with those who may not understand their decision to continue the pregnancy.

Pieta moms can also recommend books, websites and resources helpful to moms in this unique situation.

Who we serve:

Pieta reaches out to moms soon after a negative prenatal diagnosis, as well as after the birth and /or death of a baby born with a fatal or life-limiting condition.

Pieta also invites other moms who have welcomed their special infant to join us in sharing our strength and experience with the currently expectant or recently  bereaved.

Pieta is not a professional counseling service. There is no fee for our services.

How to reach us:

Pieta can be reached by phone, internet or in person, and need only continue for as long as the inquirer feels    necessary.

Pieta

The Pieta is the ultimate image of maternal suffering. It is the image of Mary holding the body of her son, Jesus, after he was taken down off the cross. This image captures the essence of the sorrow and grief, as well as the strength and grace, that is felt by so many mothers who have lost a child.
